There are three types of asbestos inspections:
- Asbestos Management Inspections – These are carried out in order to develop an asbestos management plan for the workplace.
- Refurbishment & Demolition Inspections – Also known as Hazardous materials assessments and Division 6 or Part 6 audits, which are necessary to comply with legislative requirements.
- Clearance Inspections – This type of inspection is carried out in order to provide certification from a qualified consultant that an asbestos removal area is now free from asbestos and is ready to be re-occupied.
An asbestos inspection by a qualified asbestos assessor or occupational hygienist is required to locate, sample and identify asbestos to ensure risks to exposure are minimised. Due to the large number of asbestos products and materials still in the marketplace, it is difficult to determine what materials contain asbestos without having the material analysed by a NATA certified laboratory.During the inspection, Abereum will take samples of suspected asbestos containing materials and have them analysed by a certified NATA laboratory to confirm the presence or absence of asbestos. This process of inspection is also used to develop asbestos registers for workplaces to properly manage the asbestos related risks.
